Stamford has many options for transportation including trains from Amtrak and Metro-North, and buses from CTtransit, Greyhound, and Peter Pan. There is also extensive bicycle infrastructure including bike lanes, sharrows, and greenways. Stamford is proudly a part of the East Coast Greenway, a network connecting 15 states, 450 cities, and over 3,000 miles of trails.

Introducing SWIFI, Stamford’s complimentary public WiFi network.  In partnership with the City of Stamford, CTNext, and Frontier Communications, public places around the train station, UCONN, Mill River, Columbus Park, Veteran’s Park, and Latham Park will soon have a high-speed internet connection.  In fact, Columbus Park is already live!  To use SWIFI, just choose the network, register your device, and enjoy! This will enable people to work near their favorite cafes, such as Lorca, or while enjoying some music at Alive@Five! You can stream live television, Netflix shows, and even virtual reality video games without any lag time or buffering. You can download a song in 0.03 seconds, a 9-hour audiobook in 1 second, and a 2-hour HD movie in 25 seconds. The CT Gig Project is a coalition of municipalities, state officials, and other interested parties committed to bringing high-speed, low-cost internet to all residents and businesses in Connecticut. Stamford is home to the second largest cable communications company in the country, Charter Communications. Ranked #70 on the 2019 Fortune 500 list, it increased 222 rankings over its 2016 spot at #292. This is due to the large acquisitions of both Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks in 2015. Charter Communications is one of Stamford's largest employers with a workforce of over 1,000 within the city, and over 93,000 nationwide. 

Norwalk-based Fortune #355 Frontier Communications, which maintains a major network switching center in Stamford, plays a major role in the development of direct consumer internet speeds of 1GB at affordable rates. Currently, Frontier FiberHouse allows Stamford residents to access 1GB speeds for around $200 a month.

Stamford has been dedicated to providing the best service of healthcare to its residents as possible. The brand new upgrades to Stamford Hospital have created one of the most sophisticated healthcare facilities in the country. Stamford Hospital is an affiliate of the New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System, a major teaching affiliate of the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, and a partner with the Hospital for Special Surgery, which is ranked the #1 orthopedic hospital in the world. The upgrades completed in 2016 include a new state-of-the-art emergency department, pediatric and intensive care units as well as the new Heart & Vascular Institute. Other centers within the Stamford Health Group include the Tully Health Center, Stamford Health: Immediate Care Center, and the Orthopedic & Spine Institute at Chelsea Piers

Stamford Hospital is one of roughly 7 percent of hospitals nationwide to have achieved the prestigious Magnet designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program, the highest recognition possible for nurses. Stamford Hospital is a Planetree designated patient-centered hospital and has earned their Distinction Award for Leadership and Innovation in Patient-Centered Care, placing it among only eight of the 365 Planetree facilities in the world to be recognized with the honor. And, Stamford Hospital was ranked on the 2014-2015 U.S. News & World Report of Best Regional Hospitals. Located in the Tandent Center at the Stamford Hospital is the Sacred Heart University Physician Assistant Program, which offers a Masters in Physician Assistant Studies as a full-time, 27-month program.

Other recent additions to the city include Yale-New Haven's Greenwich Hospital Outpatient Services, the Yale Medicine Center for Musculoskeletal Care, and the Yale-New Haven Northeast Medical Group, all located at 260 Long Ridge Rd in Stamford.
